Good afternoon, Smash fans. I have a special two-part blog for today.
Last month, an idea popped up in my mind about posting images for characters in Ultimate using my design from Microsoft Paint. After thinking it over for a bit, I decided to draw each of the vanilla release new fighters.
In these next two blogs, I will show off a hand-drawn image of each character in both their standard costume and my favorite recolor. Yes, these don't look as good as the official artwork; if you critique my design, do it with kindness, please... :blush:

Inkling's design in my style took some time to get right. I first drew her in mid-2017, tying in with the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Her head was smaller, resulting in more bizarre eye placement.
While my look for Inkling is rather kooky, I like how her face turned out...the magenta recolor looks kinda cute.
The first time I drew Ridley was back in 2015, as part of my Unpopular Smash Bros. Opinions video. Only his upper body was shown.
The image seen here is one of the first times that I drew the space dragon in full. I stick to the design seen in Ultimate, albeit with a brighter purple for his skin and orange wings, similar to his trophy in Melee.
Because Ridley is so large, I made his recolor a separate picture. His skin is more of a soft lavendar than in-game...
I only started drawing Simon a few months ago. In fact, most characters you will see in these blog posts are ones that I am generally unfamiliar with drawing, as I do Mario cartoons.
While his overall appearance is on the simpler side, I think I did okay with Simon Belmont. His doppelganger purple recolor uses the same concept.
I have been drawing King K. Rool for a while now. I first drew him in 2008, where his face was different in design. I would add his longer snout starting in 2012.
In this pic, K. Rool looks a bit different than the design used since 2012. Namely, his crown is smaller and there are no jewels. The pink skin is a more vibrant shade than in-game, and I modeled him after his sick render pose from Ultimate. :blush:
As for Incineroar, I think he looks able in my aesthetic. I do apologize if the picture is harder to see on the mobile site...
His colors are nice and vibrant, so it wasn't a huge challenge to color him in. I like how the blue skin turned out.
I know that Piranha Plant isn't a "base" newcomer, but he was confirmed before Ultimate's release and he isn't part of the Fighters , so I included him here.
Being a Mario enemy, Piranha Plant is a character I have drawn for many years. The design here is based on my 2013 facelift, where I added visible lips to the Piranha Plant species. They are colored green as a reference to Super Mario 64.
For his recolor, I used the white lips as in the game. Unlike other photos, both of the Piranha Plants seen here are not copy-and-paste.
