In a sultry street,
By lurid lights,
Where the music blasts through ink and grime,
Shards and chaos are soon to meet.

As a silencing night fell upon the city, a sense of dissonance did too. The soul of the city had been lost years ago, now replaced by the abnormal hum of the neon lights, and an artificial shine that smothered the struggle inside of its empty heart.
Pink was uneasy. She did her best to hide in the secluded shadow of the city's outskirts, yet even the darkness couldn't shield her lustrous rosy glow. This city had failed miserably - at least in her eyes. First, the struggle of even convincing her superiors to give it to her had been a immense effort; being one of the last descendants of the Royal Squid Family meant she had the least power compared to her sisters Harmony and Arie, who scrutinised her actions constantly. To them, she had failed before she had even touched the little land she was allowed to colonise. The uprising by the civillians were the least of her worries now - she'd be killed by her own family before they could touch her.
Suddenly, a train sped past, the breeze ruffling her neat pink hair and clothes, revealing the infamous royal crest on her hand. The coldness of the outside shocked her - she almost regretted escaping the comforts of her palace in the Capital. No. She was tired of being criticised for every single thing she did. Tired of being ridiculed for asking for aid when the first uprising happened.
"These unruly subjects can't hurt you!"
Arie's condescending tone still lingering in her mind like poison.
"We're tired of hearing your useless queries. You don't even have to do anything - just be present, smile and wait. This industrialization will soon be completed, and these - what do you call them - threats shall be no more."
Despite her being somewhat right, Pink's doubt overruled that. The rebels had destroyed Mako Mart in mere days, and the heightened security didn't help. Besides, it was her land, she could do what she wanted with it. And if that meant abandoning it, then... so be it. She was going to the outskirts and head into Octo Valley, where she could travel back to Inkopolis and forget her city ever existed. She was almost there - her guards hadn't found her yet, or her own assistant, and the swirling mist of the valley was in sight. Quickening her pace, she hurried down the alleyway, her diamond-encrusted shoes tapping on the dull floor. She could barely keep her excitement contained. She'd finally berid of all the negativity this caused her. She'd finally be free and-
"There she is!" a voice cried out. "Pink!" Pink's heart sank. It was them. The rebels had found her.
The lean silhouette of a charger-wielding octoling readied itself on top of a house roof. Panicked, Pink froze. Just what she feared - she was foolish for thinking she could get to Octo Valley without her Roller Guards. There was no other option for her. There was no turning back. She had little power compared to her stronger sisters, but she could use what she had.
Without looking back, she ran.
Though the energy she'd inherited from her ancestors wasn't enough. Like lightning, the charger assassin caught up to her, its deadly weapon pointed straight to her head. She was trapped.
"You have no idea how long I've waited for this Pink," they said, black goggles shielding their face.
She knew her fate. With her power, she quickly withdrew her hand, the insignia of the royal family glowing a bright pink, releasing a flare she was taught to use if she was in danger. Taken aback, the charger fired, as the pink light flooded the streets like a tsunami, shattering shop windows and filling the air with a deafening screech, like a car coming to an abrupt stop. Then, it was over. The ink from the charger lay spilled on the floor, its owner long gone as they had retreated at the sight of Pink's power.
And as Pink laid on the cold, smooth street, she clenched her fist...
She had been shattered.
