My Stardew Journey // week 2, part 2

Spring 12-14

All things considered, the latter portion of this week has been significantly more relaxed. I suppose I didn’t necessary need to split my entries, but I just had so much to say in that last one that I couldn’t wait until the week was over.

I’m not sure why I’m justifying how I write in my personal journal… I guess that’s just me for you.

Anyway, I’m starting to… build my farm up? It’s… a little sad looking, ittedly, but for the time being I’m favoring functionality over looks.

Besides, I’ve been growing some pretty good stuff! It turns out I’ve got a greener thumb than I realized, haha.

Spring is in its peak, and there are petals and pollen EVERYWHERE. I’ve never had terrible spring allergies, so I’ve been doing my fair share of frolicking.

We never really had anything like this back in the city, so I’m enjoying it!

Aside from that, I’ve started spending more time with Emily. She’s invited me over a few times, and we like to just chat about whatever we feel like. She’s really easy to talk to, and we have great conversations.

Now, for the biggest bit of news this week: yesterday (Saturday) was the egg festival! Apparently this is one of many annual festivals they hold in the valley. This one was all about… well, eggs. It was actually really fun, though! It was a good chance to get to talk with a lot of people, including some I don’t see too often.

Plus, I got a silly picture with a standee:

Gotta send a copy of that to my sister; she’ll get a kick out of it.

The highlight of the festival was the egg hunt. At first, I figured I’d just stand aside and watch, but when I noticed a few others my age ing in I figured I might as well.

It was really fun! There were eggs hidden all around downtown, and I actually managed to find the most! Guess that’s my competitive side coming to my advantage.

And the grand prize? It was… a hat. A straw hat, to be exact. It’s cute, at least. Definitely helps me complete the whole farmer look.

While I was there, I chatted with Shane a little more. Turns out, he helps his aunt with her chickens, and he was involved with a lot of the prep for the festival. He seemed really excited about it, and I can tell he loves the chickens he’s raising. It’s actually pretty sweet.

He brushed me off when I tried to talk to him earlier today, though, so I dunno. Some people are just mysteries, I suppose.

Anyway, one last thing for today. I was walking through the forest when I noticed Vincent and Jas, the neighborhood kids, in front of the sewer grate. I couldn’t tell what happened, but they came running to me all of a sudden, startled. Apparently there was something inside.

I walked over to investigate, figuring it was just an animal or something, but then I heard the noise. It was something… unnatural. And I swear I saw a big, dark figure moving around in the shadows…

Needless to say, I was right behind those kids when they took off running. Though I was thoroughly freaked out, I was also curious. Jas mentioned that she thought Gunther, the museum curator, had the key for the sewer, so I decided to stop by.

When I walked in, though, Gunther was looking over a huge, empty museum space. He was disappointed by the state of it, and understandably so.

Well, I happened to have a few minerals I’d found in the mines tucked into my backpack. I showed them to Gunther, and he was really excited. He kindly asked if I would donate a few of them, and I was happy to. So now, I’ve got another mission: to help fill up this empty museum.

The museum’s part of the library, so I took the time to relax in there for a bit. It’s a really nice place; there are lots of books, and several places to sit and work on things. I might even bring some of my writing here sometime…

Well, assuming I actually start writing again. Farm work has been taking up a lot of my time lately… although it’s not like I was writing much before moving, anyway. Maybe this journal is a good place to start, at the very least.

This week’s been crazy… but really encouraging. I’m hoping this is a sign of what’s to come.
