The sun beat down on the cracked pavement outside the med center. My friend and I stood close, phones buzzing as we tried to untangle the confusing details of the PG program. The air was thick with the scent of freshly mown grass and distant chatter from ing students.
Then, from behind, he appeared-calm and confident. He was the leader of my friend’s group, the acting head of our university’s student senate. His hair wasn’t my favorite, but the way he carried himself made my heart skip a beat.
He didn’t expect to see us together. His eyes widened slightly as he greeted us, surprise flickering across his face. Without hesitation, he perched on the low wall nearby, legs crossed, fidgeting just like in that famous movie scene everyone talks about.
Normally, I’m not shy. But this time, my breath caught. My pulse thundered in my ears as I held his gaze, steady and unblinking. I could see it-the moment he flinched, his full attention suddenly on me.
Just then, his groupmates-also my friend’s circle-arrived, dropping down beside him on the wall. Their laughter bubbled around us, teasing and light, as they called him on his phone, reminding him it was time to leave.
I knew them all well. Through the student senate, I was connected to their leader. Despite the noise, his focus never fully left me.
The moment was simple. Yet, it felt charged-like a quiet scene from a movie that replays in your mind long after it’s over.
