Winter 1-7

Well, it turned out to be true: winter really did come hard and fast this week.

In fact, the very first day of winter, I woke up to a blanket of snow covering the ground outside. It had already been plenty chilly last week, but it was even colder that first day.

With no crops to take care of, I eased into the morning before heading to town. On my way there, however, I got a little sidetracked by an interesting find.

While ing the bus station, I caught sight of a dark silhouette standing at the end of the path. As soon as it turned my direction, however, it took off running.

Naturally, I followed the figure, but by the time I reached the end of that path I had lost sight of it. There was, however, a set of footprints in the snow just off the path…

The footsteps led me off the path, up the hill, and past the fountain, before they stopped in front of a big bush. I leaned in, peeking between the branches…

… then the figure jumped out of the side of the bush! The creature was similar to ones that I’ve seen in the mines before. It spoke perfect English, and it was very timid. I tried to say something to calm it down, but it was gone before I had much of a chance.

This time, I didn’t follow it.

Well, this week I took a page out of Shane’s book. Pretty shortly after I’d moved here, Robin offered some of the buildings she’d be able to construct for the farm, the first of which being a coop. I’ve never been big on farm animals, and early in the year there was no WAY I’d have time to take care of them.

However, things have been relaxing a little more, and especially with winter going on, I’ve got plenty of time on my hands. Plus, Shane made raising chickens seem pretty appealing, and I figured I could go to him if I needed any help. So I decided, why not? Let’s build a coop!

I must say, that woman is pretty darn great at her job. She built that coop all by herself, and she had it done in just a few days!

After the coop was constructed, I bought a few chicks from Marnie. I’ve called them Camellia and Juliette, and already, I love them. Chickens are surprisingly very sweet animals!

Thankfully, I’ve got a silo full of feed. Hopefully it’ll be enough to last through the winter, until I can rely on the grass that grows pretty fast around here in spring.

On another note, I finished another room of bundles in the community center! This one is apparently some sort of crafts room, and I love how it looks fully restored.

I’m curious how the junimos do this. Is it some sort of magic? Do they get it from the items I bring in? How are they getting crafting supplies?

Anyway, the next day I was walking past the lake in the mountains when I noticed something. There’s a large bridge over a gap to the east, and as long as I’ve been here, it’s been broken. However, after completing that bundle, the bridge was in full repair.

I knew the junimos must have done it, just like with the mine carts. I’m curious, though, why they’ve been doing this. Are they wanting to restore the whole town?

On the other side of the bridge is a quarry of sorts. There were TONS of minerals there, just waiting to be mined.

So that’s going to be a nice spot to visit and use.

Anyway, my one complaint this week has been the cold. As hot as the summer was, you wouldn’t expect weather around here to get so cold. I’ve been wanting to cozy up at home all day, every day, and I know I’m not alone in that.

I found out what Robin’s idea for all that hardwood was: a huge, four-poster bed. I’ve gotta say, it looked pretty sharp!

Robin’s been offering it up for sale, and I’m pretty tempted. The price tag is just a little high for me at the moment, though.

Ah, well. I’ve got a cozy easy chair and a nice fireplace to keep me warm for now.
