Shadow Personality

At first she's happy and puts up a smile, flying around and tending to the flowers, but after you attempt to enter further in the Greenhouse, she becomes more standoffish and distant. She pushes you away and prevents you from entering deeper into her heart, reassuring you that she's fine and doesn't need your help.

Cause of the Palace

When Musumae was ten years old, her father came home late at night, reeking of alcohol, and stumbling to walk. She knew what was going on, since it hadn't been uncommon for him to come home like this. She knew not to talk or be around him when he was like this, because he'd get very angry when drunk, but this night he was especially furious. She couldn't avoid him, and he asked her to come over to him.

"Dad, are you alright? I saw you stumbling and--"

He raised his voice, practically yelling at her.

"Don't you see?! I'm FINE! Just for asking that dumb question, you're getting punished you fucking piece of no good shit!"

He formed his hand into a fist and swung at her. Before it could hit Mae, her older sister, Kasuma, grabbed his fist.

Kasuma yelled, "You can hurt me. You can hurt mom. But I swear. I swear to fucking god, if you even think about laying a finger on Mae, I won't hesitate to call the police on you. You hear me, you deadbeat?!" This woke up their mother who was sleeping upstairs.

Their mother hurried to the stairs, afraid of what would happen next. "You don't fuck with me you little shit!" Their mother heard.

She then heard the sound of shattering glass, and falling. She feared her husband, but cared deeply for her children. Because of this, she called the police, telling them what was happening, then ran downstairs, to see her husband with a broken wine bottle in his hand, glass on the floor, Kasuma laying on the ground, the father kicking Kasuma’s head, and Mae screaming for him to stop, pulling on his arm. The mother grabbed an empty wine bottle on the ground and went behind her husband. She swung the bottle as hard as she could, knocking him out. She fell to the ground, holding Kasuma in her arms. After questioning and putting Kasuma in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), their father was detained and imprisoned. He would serve 40 years for charges of abuse, assault, public intoxication, driving under influence, and many other crimes.

After a year, Kasuma still hadn’t awoken from her comatose state, she had sustained a major concussion, but miraculously didn't have any other health defects, though her consciousness still had no sight of returning.

Mae still feels guilt and sorrow for what happened that day. She can't shake the feeling of the shame she felt then, as so, she puts up a happy and comionate façade, making sure to keep others happy.

5:32pm - The Deli

Exterior Design

The outside looks like a garden and a greenhouse. It feels calm, safe and beautiful. It represents the front Mae puts up to make others feel comfortable. The easiest way in is through the front doors, as Mae would not see the Phantom Thieves as a threat. But once she does, she will grow giant vines in front of the door, blocking you out from the prison she holds for herself. The only way to get in from there is to talk genuinely to Mae in the real world, and let her open her heart to you. After that, she will release the vines that keep her heart closed, and you'll be able to enter the true palace.

Interior Design

It looks like a greenhouse inside, with flowers, gardens, and warmth all around, but once you get further in, it starts looking more like a prison. At the back of the greenhouse is an elevator. Going down the elevator will take you to the true Palace, deep inside Mae's heart. From there, the design looks a bit off. There's flowers covering spots on the walls, but if they're burned up, they hide pictures of memories Mae holds from moments her father physically abused her mother or her older sister.

Palace Bosses

Mini-boss

When you arrive at the part of her palace where you fight the mini boss, you see shadow Mae. She's crying in front of an elevator. She yells to go away, that she doesn't want to talk about what happened. She summons a large shadow soldier. This mini boss is a jail warden, with a large flower coming out of their head.

The Final Boss

The final boss is Shadow Mae tearing into a split personality. What happens is, Shadow Mae is quivering in the corner of her solitary cell. She stands up and looks at Akira with tearful eyes. She takes a few steps forward, telling them to stay back, and the only monster controlling her is herself. She looks up and screams, then a pillar void of color overtakes Shadow Mae. After it stops, Shadow Mae splits into two. The Mae from the real world is pulled into the Metaverse and stares up at the flying Shadow Mae, who looks much more sinister now.

A Bottle of Tears

Extra

Once in the real world, the bottle of tears changes into a half shattered wine bottle. The same that Mae's father held while kicking Kasuma.
