Hey everyone! New Curator Captain, g on!

Before I begin with the PSA, I just want to thank everyone in this community for being accepted as the newest Curator! I promise I’ll do my hardest to ensure that the rules are followed, while also making sure everyone has a fun time on here!

Now, sometimes there’s nothing greater than a good OC, or Original Character! The fun of creating a character who originated from your own imagination, combined with the opportunities to role play and or talk about said characters with others can be an intoxicating experience!

And I’m with you there! Which is why, I’m creating these guidelines for said Original Characters!

These are not rules, as there is meant to be some creative freedom in of OCs! However, this can be a simple guide to help your creation’s process along the way!

Now, let’s get into it!

The Basics: Name, Age, And all of that!

Name:

Now, as of right now, there are no restrictions in of names for Gen:LOCK (no color rules here!). Meaning, you can name your characters whatever you want! However, please be sure that these names aren’t unnecessarily graphic, whether it be curse words, or anything of the like. Same things apply for the name of your characters mech, weapons, etc. (if they have these).

Age:

Now, for this show, we’re going to assume that the Gen:LOCK program and other military branches still utilize their policies on age in the military recruitment process.

Due to this, an OC that is a member of any parts of the military should be no younger than 17.

However, if you can come up with a unique workaround (such as a child prodigy, a non-combative role in the military, etc.), than it gives you some leeway in of age.

Height And Weight:

Self explanatory

And Now for the Juicy Bits!

Appearance:

This can be considered one of the most important parts of your OC! This includes everything from your characters face, eye and hair colors, any scars or birthmarks, to even the shape of your character’s face!

Now, as shown through the many trailers we have of Gen:LOCK, it seems that the program, and most likely any other military faction, doesn’t keep a regulation in of hair length, color, etc.

Which means, that you have just about as much creative freedom with it as you desire! Same goes with your character’s looks!

However, I would suggest keeping your character within the realms of believability, unless it’s purposefully meant not to, such as if it’s a robot, mech, etc.

Personality

This is your character’s traits. Is your character the funny, ‘I’ll always have your back’ type? Are they one of those silent, lone-wolf types? What do they like and/or dislike?

The possibilities are endless with this option as well!

However, I would suggest a few things when making these. Your character’s personality types shouldn’t be polar opposites of each other (I doubt many people can be the happy-go-Lucky type, while also being a complete edgelord at the same time)

Also, It would be highly courteous to our fellow that, if it must be included for whatever reason, any and all personality disorders are respectively used. This means traits like Multiple Personalities (known as Dissociative Identity Disorder), depression, and other traits like this contain the actual traits associated with these disorders, and are not used just for the sake of the character ‘being cooler’ with them.

Clothing

The possibilities are also (almost) endless when it comes to choices of clothing! Whether it be hats, pieces of armor, or anything in between, clothing can help to express your character’s personality, be used to aid in your character’s combat, and so much more!

However, there are a few restrictions in of clothing.

Mainly, the clothing options should not break the guidelines in regards to sexuality in any way

(female or dude, please do not lewd!)

Also, while not required, it would aid in the believability factor if the pieces of clothing fit the character in a believable way (a lightweight, thin framed person shouldn’t be lugging around giant pieces of power armor or anything like that! It’s not healthy!)

(Everything here applies for your character’s mech as well, if they have one!)

Weapons/Abilties:

Ahh, the bread and butter of any Original Character, the Weapons And Abilities they use!

Weapons are where your character shines in of combat prowess! Whether they be for your character’s mech, or for the character themselves, weapons show off just how your character would act in combat.

You have nigh unlimited creative freedom in of weapons as well.

However, I would suggest keeping the weapon believable to the character. Don’t be giving a lightweight, frail character access to a Coco from RWBY style Machine Gun, unless there’s a reason for it, whether it be just for their mech, cybernetic enhancements that allow for such heavy lifting, etc.

Backstory:

Now this is the heart of every Original Character.

It’s here that all of your previous categories can also come into play. Here, you can explain where your character comes from, how they came to be where they are, how or why they now have certain things such as scars, a disorder (as long as it’s respectfully made), and everything in between!

There are a few recommendations when it comes to the backstory as well. Backstories featuring heavily graphic imagery (like one of the multi-billion ‘my parents are dead’ scenarios, or self harming due to past traumas) must be kept to a minimum in of blood and gore, and must still follow the guidelines in of this, as well as other things like sexuality, self harming, and more.

Also, please do not plagiarize anyone else’s backstory, no matter if it’s from a canon character of another series, or another person’s OC
