Jiwoo was having a pleasant time with Haseul. She was one of the few people that had openly accepted and took care of her without being awkward at first. If she needed help with something, she knew that she could talk to her about it.

Currently seated at a table, they had got coffee and croissants together, which was pleasant until Haseul noticed the burns on her hands. Jiwoo had hoped that no one would notice and she could take care of it secretly. How could she have been so naive? Of course someone was going to see burns like those, especially whenever Jiwoo hadn’t even took the time to put bandages on them. Well, she was going to buy some bandages until all of her money was blown away by Sooyoung…

Haseul seemed to be waiting until the right moment to ask Jiwoo about it. She was going to strike like a snake in hiding… but in a motherly sort of way?

“So, I don’t think I’ve properly introduced myself, likewise, I don’t think you have either.” This was the perfect way to get Jiwoo to comply with Haseul, to get Jiwoo to go to the hospital. If only Haseul knew how much Jiwoo wouldn’t, and couldn’t, do that.

“My name’s Joo Haseul. I’m a law major. How about you?” She spoke so casually about her identity that it made Jiwoo nervous. How could someone speak so calmly about something like this? Oh right, it’s because she didn’t accidentally kill her husband.

“I’m… Ki- Choi Jiwoo. I- I don’t major in anything. I don’t even go to any post secondary education…”

Haseul tilted her head at Jiwoo. She definitely could tell something was up, but she kept it to herself. She told herself that it wasn’t her business. Jiwoo would be capable to deal with that.

Jiwoo carefully sipped her coffee, an iced americano, and held the cup close, like a child. Haseul noted this carefully, Jiwoo seemed way too nervous. She didn’t want to mention going to the hospital in fear of frightening her more, but it needed to be done.

“Jiwoo, your hands…” she paused for a moment, “you need to go to the hospital. Your hands could get infected or worse…”

Jiwoo put her cup down and raised one of her hands in protest. “Haseul, I absolutely can’t go to the hospital. I just… all I need is some bandages and burn cream. Then it’ll be manageable?” She didn’t quite believe herself, but it might be enough.

Haseul took a deep sigh of frustration. “Jiwoo… I’ll get you some bandages and burn cream, but if it gets worse you have to promise me you’ll go to the doctor or something, anything.”

Jiwoo felt bad for lying, and this was a promise that she definitely wouldn’t be able to keep. “Haseul, I promise that I will.” She was breaking the trust that Haseul put into this brand new relationship.

“Thank you. Come one, we can take our breakfast on the go.” Haseul rose out of the seats they were currently sitting in, reaching out for Jiwoo’s burnt hand.

“Wait, I don’t mean to ask of much but can you get me just one more thing?”

“And what might that be, Jiwoo?

“Hair dye.”

-

Sooyoung was still dancing. She was dancing the day away. Vivi was watching her practice, trying to her as best as she could, but it wasn’t doing much.

The image of Jeongeun was still running through her head.

Jeongeun had tilted her head up to kiss her girlfriend, Jinsol. Jinsol was tall and beautiful, and Jeongeun took every chance she could to rub their relationship in Sooyoung’s face. Why did they need to do that right after practice?! How did the instructor not notice?!

“Oh lighten up, Sooyoung. Just because you aren’t in a relationship doesn’t mean you have to scowl at everyone that is.”

Frustration covered Sooyoung’s face, that wasn’t why she was angry.

-

“Okay, it says here that the dye needs to stay in for an hour; which is perfect because Vivi and Sooyoung want me to pick them up then. I guess it’s because it’s raining outside and they don’t want to walk all the way here. Ugh, now I know why they were so intent on finding a roommate with a car.”

Haseul was ranting in such a fanatical manner that Jiwoo couldn't help but chuckle.

“Hey, you think my pain is funny?!” Haseul was acting aggressive but it was in a joking manner. “I'll fight you!” A joke… of course.

They spent the next hour talking about their interests. Apparently they liked the same Kdrama titled, “Oh So Far Away, My Love.”

“ when KyungSoo and Sojin kissed?! It was so romantic!” Jiwoo usually didn't like romantic kdramas but this had just enough action and mystery to it.

“Of course I do,” Haseul dramatically gasped, “it was the first time they ever kissed.”

Haseul looked at the time on her phone, “Oh, an hour is up. Go wash out that dye and then we can head over to pick up Vivi and Sooyoung.”

Jiwoo did what she was told, with gloves on her hand to cover her burns of course. Well, to cover the burns and to keep dye off of her hands. She shuddered at the thought of the dye getting into her wounds, it would be painful!

After she washing it all out and then blow-drying her hair, she looked in the mirror. Her previous light brown hair was now pitch black. It suited her but also gave her previous light and cute appearance a more sullen look. It fit her newfound personality. No one understood how much trauma, like what she went through, could affect someone.

She took a deep breath and all of this reflection of herself caused her to …

-

“What the hell do you think you're doing?!”

Her mother grabbed her wrist and glared into Jiwoo’s eyes.

“You slut! Do you think it's okay to have relations while you're already arranged for marriage?! With a woman to make it worse! You've brought shame onto this family. You best hope that your spouse to be doesn't find out! If this marriage is called off then we're disowning you. Break things off with your toy or worse things will happen to you then us disowning you.”

Her mother flung Jiwoo across the room. “What worth are you to us without this marriage? Do you think we're going to waste money on you in college?! You don't need that, a woman doesn't belong there!”

Jiwoo held her tongue. She knew that speaking would make it worse. She couldn't say the words she so desperately wanted to. She couldn't mention how she didn't love her fiance and how she didn't even like men. She couldn't mention how she was the most intelligent out of the Kim household.

Her parents were wasting her potential on this arranged marriage.

-

Sooyoung had sat with Vivi for awhile. Vivi had packed an orange for whenever she was hungry, offering to share with Sooyoung because she how tired she was. Once they finished eating, Sooyoung stood up to continue practice. Vivi grabbed her arm in protest.

“Take a break, you've practiced enough.”

She knew that Vivi would be too stubborn to let her, so she reluctantly agreed.

Haseul slammed open the door open to cause a dramatic entrance. She striked a pose to make her entrance complete.

“Guess who's here?! It's me.”

She then jumped out of the doorway and put her arms out to present something.

“And introducing, the new Jiwoo!”

Jiwoo jumped out and also struck an outrageous pose.

“Dear god Haseul, you really rubbed off on her.” Vivi rubbed her temples.

“You know, if you have any protests against this then I'll gladly leave you here because I am the one with the driver's license and car.”

Vivi stopped talking.

Sooyoung grinned at them. “Before we leave, I want to go through my choreography one more time.”

Before Vivi could say anything, Sooyoung interrupted her, “This is the last time. I promise.”

Vivi begrudgingly nodded.

Once she began her routine, Jiwoo couldn't keep her eyes of off her. She just danced so gracefully and put so much emotion into each step. It seemed that each step was filled with graceful sorrow, something Jiwoo could understand.

It made her so emotional that she was brought to tears.
