Explaining Ux Ending Part 2: Time Travel and the Characters

This is all based on theories and conjectures from the fandom. I also do NOT take credit for some of these ideas, I am simply compiling all of the most reasonable ones into a single archive.

Hello! Welcome to the blog. I am writing this mainly for a refresher for whoever wants to catch up on Ux lore, myself included, because there is so much to interpret and it is very easy to forget! Hopefully I make this summary as pleasant as possible.

Explanation of Time Travel

Before we get into this, this is an important concept to understand. In order to take a pod(aka ark), two conditions must be met. At the destination, there must be someone who re you, and a medium, such as a vessel for your heart to live.

Keep in mind that Luxu's role is to move into vessel after vessel in an effort to observe events, so he's always there, in every future, in whatever time. The memories and mediums are always at every waypoint. I believe this is how everyone is able to be remade in different times.

Fates of Notable Characters

Ventus

I explained some of his fate in the previous post, but not all of it. As far as I've covered, an unconscious Ventus is sent to the future with a darkness merged in him, the pure darkness we later know as Vanitas. After Ventus reaches his unchosen destination, he is found asleep by an unknown person.

This lines up with what we know in BBS, so it is thought that this unknown person is Xehanort, coming to find Ventus and soon, separate him into a pure darkness, Vanitas, and a pure light, Ventus. Also, we know Xehanort has Luxu's keyblade, which is also the medium for Ventus to exist there in the first place.

Lauriam

Alongside Ventus, Lauriam also took a pod. While less can be said about Lauriam, it's clear he successfully made it to the future, later becoming Marluxia and working for Organization 13. Lauriam finds himself in Dwarf Woodlands.

But... there's more to this, though this delves into the dangers of theories. Still, I believe this needs to be said. Brain tells Lauriam that his feelings toward saving his sister will be his way point.

In other words, wherever Lauriam lands in time, perhaps that is where Strelitzia is? But we know Strelitzia is in Quadratum from the KH4 trailer... unless Quadratum is some sort of parallel to the real world. It's a complicated theory, and it's even more confusing knowing she died, but still. Why would Nomura spend a few cutscenes talking about how they could find Strelitzia, where she is in data, etc? If anyone has thoughts on this, let me know.

Elrena

Elrena... well there's not much to her. After departing in a pod alongside Ventus and Lauriam, she finds herself in Enchanted Dominion, and we know she later s Organization 13 as Larxene, presumably alongside Marluxia. Whether they have their memories or not isn't clear, but I believe they're still carrying out their mission, which is finding Strelitzia.

Ephemer

Ephemer is quite literally the man that connects everything MoM has laid out. He departs in a pod alongside Skuld a split second before the ark room collapses.

Then, he is found in a pod floating in the ocean of what looks to be the destroyed Daybreak Town. It's not clear how far in the future he traveled, but it's not too far. A theory that helps a lot of future arguments is that he simply didn't travel to the future at all, instead awakening in a destroyed world with everything he had on him intact. Yes, that includes the Book of Prophecies he kept.

So, it is later revealed that he became the founder of the town Scala Ad Caelum. Interesting. It's almost like he peaked at the Book of Prophecies... but you'll see more about this soon.

We don't know what happened to him after he became the founder, but knowing he appeared at the Keyblade Graveyard to aid Sora, he must've went there.

Skuld

Skuld left in a pod alongside Ephemer, but her whereabouts are unknown. Was she Subject X? If you have any thoughts about this as well, let me know.

Brain

Ah yes, Brain. Brain is never shown to have left in a pod, but in the real world he has an encounter with Luxu. Luxu talks about how intelligent he is, and Brain talks about how he wants to devote his life to saving the wielders and his friends. Luxu has a more interesting response.

So, clearly Luxu does something with Brain, but what? This next part involves lots of theories. So, let's start here. There's a scene where Luxu is revealed to now be... Brain?? Or, Luxu looks like Brain?? Or, Luxu possesses Brain?? The third option sits the best with me. Let me explain.

Luxu possesses Brain's body, but sends Brain's heart in the last remaining pod(this pod was meant to be used by Player, but since player was defeated, this pod could then be transported from the data world to the real world, and thus be used by Luxu for Brain). Clearly Brain is in the future, as shown in this scene where he is woken up by a man known as Sigurd in Scala Ad Caelum. Also, Brain is the only one who arrived at this time period.

So, settling on that theory for now, Brain is now in the future in the town Ephemer created, perhaps decades or centuries after the creation of the town. Sigurd also reveals that Ephemer had indeed read the Book of Prophecies, since he knew Brain would escape.

Then, Sigurd reveals to Brain that Ephemer was the first keyblade master, and the founder of the town.

What else about Brain... well, people think he's the grandfather, or some sort of descendent to Eraqus, due to living in the same town, as well as looking sort of similar. However, I'm not too sure of this theory, since others speculate that Eraqus is the descendent of Ephemer, having been referred to as a 'blue blood' as in, descendent of royalty/founder. Additionally, Brain's keyblade was given to Ephemer, and this is the same keyblade that Eraqus wielded, and later gave to Aqua. I'm torn between these two.
