I think it would be great if 18+ had the option to host communities on servers specifically designated for adults - similar to how Discord handles it. That way, younger could have their own space, and adults could have theirs.
It would significantly improve member safety and open the door to more content creators and communities - which I think would drastically help Amino thrive.
I think Discord is more popular (which is sad imo) and has the advantage because it allows specific separate servers for adults to engage how they wish, while their main servers are open to all within their basic age requirements.
Having separate servers wouldn’t necessarily automatically get rid of all predatory behavior but it would absolutely minimize it.
Personally, if given the opportunity or authority, I would set up three servers- one main server which keeps things as is - one under 17 server for those minors who wish to only associate with other minors and one adult server where adults could just breathe a bit and talk amongst adults.
It wouldn’t solve all of Aminos problem but it would help drastically and provide a more effective solution to one of the biggest problems that Amino has faced since day one.

No matter how we may all feel concerning this topic, I think we all agree that we want Amino to be a safe space for fandom for many years to come where all may share their thoughts free of bias, prejudice and predatory behavior..

Social media platforms should generally be restricted to s aged 18 and above, as there is always uncertainty regarding the identities of others and the nature of the content one may encounter.
I think your touching on a much bigger and less discussed issue and honestly I kind of agree - although, I’d perhaps suggest 16+ - I do see where you’re coming from. Thanks so much for the comment!
I think it should be 16+, honestly. I think all social media should be 16+ unless it's a kid-focused space (Club Penguin, Roblox, etc.)
Mixing adults and kids in a “neutral” space breeds trouble like grooming and general immaturity. Grown ass adults will beef with a 14 year old and hold no remorse for it.
Amino should be 16+, in fact EU Protection Laws ed a few years ago to dictate this very requirement. I don't think it should be the full responsibility of the parents to heavily monitor what their kid is doing. That's rather intrusive. It's up to the companies mainly.
That being said, I do run a 13+ Community because it would feel unfair to gatekeep younger audiences when the App itself allows them access without issue. I just have to keep a strict eye on things.
I personally think 16+ is a reasonable number for any and all social media.
To me, it’s rather inconceivable to place the responsibilities of moderation solely on either the platform or the parents.
(This is another odd quirk of Animo, in some cases putting literal minors in the role of s- that said - I’ve had people under 16 moderate and they have been some of the best - yet it goes without saying that if minors aren’t supposed to be subject to certain adult situations- how can one justify them being in charge of moderating adult and or illicit behavior? 🙃)
Whatever weirdo decided that minors under 16 should be on the internet at all, clearly wasn’t thinking about the best interests of youthful people the world over.
I understand this view isn’t shared by many but I know many child psychologists who would unequivocally agree.
