As always, we start with the
article.. today I've written you
a little overview about lgbtq
places from all over the world!
___________________________________________
Gaybourhoods
There are a lot of LGBTQ+ people
who live in unsafe homes, facing
abuse or discrimination every day.
But there are a lot of these people
who live in positive environments
as well! Such as the many gay
villages all over the world. These
are also often called gay, gayttos,
gay enclaves, gayvenues, gay ghettos,
gay districts, gaytowns, gay
neighbourhoods or gayborhoods.
I.. cannot believe how many times
I just wrote the word "gay"... woah
Anyway, today I would like to tell
you a little about their history and
maybe even mention a few of the
most popular villages! First let's
start with a definition- what are they?
Well, gay villages are just places,
villages and neighbourhoods just
like any other ones. The difference
is, they have a large number of lesbian,
gay, bisexual, trans and other lgbt
residents or visiters. Gay villages
often have a lot of gay bars, pubs,
nightclubs, bathhouses, restaurants,
boutiques and even bookstores.
Some of these areas simply have
a lot of lbgt residents, and others
represent a lgbt-friendly oasis in
the middle of an otherwise hostile
city. Today, these neighborhoods
are usually found in the trendier
parts of a town. For example like
it is in Manhattan- chosen mostly
for aesthetic or historic value,
not because of a constant threat
of violence from homophobes
originally motivated these people
to live together for mutual safety.
Now to end off this little summary,
I'll leave you with cute pictures
from gay places all over the world..
Enjoy!

This month Opal has yet
again interviewed a few
of our lovely !
If you possibly would like
to be featured in an
interview, or have any tips
for us to improve them,
feel free to approach me
or Alex, or just write a
comment down below!
We'd love to hear your
thoughts.. Anyways-
the interviews!!
- Wʜᴏ ᴀʀᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ᴄᴜʀʀᴇɴᴛʟʏ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴛᴏ?
Anonymous 1; Friends, no family though.
Anonymous 2; eh, no one really knows anything about me to begin with, i don't know that many people
Derpy; my parents, i am pretty sure my old school, and that is everyone?
- Wʜᴀᴛ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʏᴏᴜ ᴄᴀᴛᴇɢᴏʀɪᴢᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴇᴘʀᴇsᴇɴᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ᴏғ LGBTQ+ ɪɴ ᴍᴇᴅɪᴀ ᴀs (ɪ.ᴇ ʀᴇᴀʟɪsᴛɪᴄ, sᴛᴇʀᴇᴏᴛʏᴘɪᴄᴀʟ)
Anonymous 1; It always depends on context- but generally stereotypical
Anonymous 2; as for it being stereotypical, I guess some people just don't see it for what it is but eh, lots of people do and decide to see it the wrong way either way and make it stereotypical to others. it's just not very approved of. but on the other hand there are people who see it in a totally different light, so I'll have to go with it's half stereotypical and half not
Derpy; Depends, most times its the realistic harsh reality everyone expects. Parents being angry, not accepting friends ect. Sometimes it goes to the more stereotypical when making a character. So its honestly depends on the context.
- Iғ ʏᴏᴜ ʜᴀᴅ ᴀ ᴄʜᴏɪᴄᴇ, ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ sᴛʀᴀɪɢʜᴛ? Wʜʏ?
Anonymous 1; No- because tbh- i love who i am- im proud to call myself panromantic- because honestly... everyone deserves love if that makes sense- and its okay to be who you are- you dont have to force yourself to be straight. But if it were up to me- i would choose to not be trans.. and to enjoy being a "girl" because.. i feel guilty sometimes about that.. for not liking what i was born as
Anonymous 2; eh, I have the choice, I like who I like. it's why I consider myself bi instead of anything else
Derpy; Eh, not really. This seems like a unprofessional answer but, i feel like me being straight would. Change? My life. Not really for good or bad, but just make it. Not me. A little part of myself always was different which affected me so. Not going through those changes might have made me a semi different person. Good or bad, i am not sure.
- Wʜᴀᴛ's ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴏᴘɪɴɪᴏɴ ᴏɴ 'Aᴍ I LGBTQ+' Qᴜɪᴢᴢᴇs?
Anonymous 1; I think they help give us a sense of closeness but should be more accurate/have more questions that relate to lgbtq and make people really think
Anonymous 2; I haven't even heard of them to be honest, my girlfriend is the one who invited me here and I haven't had many communications with anyone else, haven't really made friends or met anybody, let alone answer quizzes. I guess I would have an opinion if I took a quiz, based on it's accuracy and what it's determined off of
Derpy; it usually seems silly to me that taking a quiz can make you realize you are gay. From my understanding they seem pointless and stupid. Sure, IF (big if here) the quiz was logical then i would kinda understand but that would mean someone actually did full researched interviewed many people in the community and actually understood each of the definitions and make questions that wont trick you into getting a answer. Frankly i doubt they are anything but useful. And i would hope people that are questioning would find a better way of figuring it out (even if they later realize its wrong, has another part, ect) without taking a quiz.
Thank you to our 2 anonymous
s and Derpy for agreeing to
the interview! We appreciate it :two_hearts:

This is just about the best thing I’ve read all day. Your brought to my attention so many great things I had no idea about, and I will probably research more into! Great job guys!
thank you! we're really glad you guys seem to be enjoying it :D
I can't wait to make next month's blog, too uvu
Nice work, guys! A suggestion: you could have shown gay neighbourhoods worldwide, not just Europe, US and one in South America.
About the story in Brazil:
Bienal (the book event where the whole trouble happened) ended up transferred back to Salvador, where it never should have left. The mayor said he will never censor any content in here, the capital of resistance and diversity and home of most of the renowned authors countrywide. The country is crazy lately being ran by Trump's puppy and the Southeast (region which Rio is in) also has those crazy governors and mayors. Hopefully things will get better the next presidential election 🤞🏼I am an author and my work is inclusive, but there's been this whole wave of censorship. I guess that makes the work even more necessary.
woah, thanks for the additional info! :]
