Perhaps like the moon, we also belong to the night

Let me be the Selene to your Endymion.

Because to love so fiercely,

I would pull the very moon near you like her,

and when moonlight would soak through

your skin and drip down like the sigh

of a ghost slipping off porcelain bones, you would know at least an ounce of what I feel for you.

However, Serendipity’s kiss never graced my brow,

which is why it may have given you birth as

Endymion, but I was not written as your Selene. Perhaps that's the reason why I always find you in sweet slumber not because I asked Zeus

to lull you to eternal rest, but because

you remain blissfully unaware of the silent adoration that keeps my own world illuminated, just as the moon does yours.

I think the probability of us being together

is as faint as the likelihood of the moon being

made out of cheese.

But if in some universe it was true,

do you think the cloying pull of cheese would've

been enough to bind us together?I believe not.

Because the scent of cheese might arouse

your senses for a stretch, but it won't

awaken you to my stationary watch of stillness,

it won't decipher the vernacular of

my lunar desire for you to synthesize.

Perhaps in another celestial turn

the faintest sliver of moonlight will one day pierce

your slumber, and maybe, just maybe,

in that moment, when the camouflage between our worlds finally lifts, you'll reach out, not just

with your hand but with your dreams of

sun-drenched meadows,

and you will love me as fiercely as I have loved you.

Until then, sleep on, my Endymion.

1. SELENE:

SELENE was the Titan goddess of the moon. Selene's great love was the shepherd prince ENDYMION The beautiful boy was granted eternal youth and immortality by Zeus and placed in a state of eternal slumber in a cave near the peak of Lydian Mount Latmos (Latmus). His heavenly bride consorted with him there in the night.

2. THE MOON IS MADE OUT OF CHEESE :

"The Moon is made of green cheese" was one of the most popular proverbs in 16th- and 17th-century English literature.
