Ai: Friend, Foe or Self Reflection?

by prophetiesdemerlin

NOTE:

The following is an opinion piece and based on a conversation I had with Chat GPT several months ago when I asked it if it could really potentially pose any serious threat to humanity.

It’s answer may surprise you…

It is not meant to offend anyone, rather to spark critical thinking and positive discussion.

Art & Artist - The Hype Machine

I want to be clear that I in no way training Ai on copywritten works but then it’s important to understand that not all Ai platforms do this. I also don’t buy into the hype machine that’s trying to get every one to turn their backs on the technology altogether either.

Generally I am not one to sit around and worry whether or not Ai can do what I can do …

It simply can’t, at least not yet, and if it could - I’d put it to use working for me as it was intended.

Most professional artists I know don’t either.

Thats the thing about artists- it takes sort of being engulfed in ones own art to really qualify. Meaning, most artists don’t have the time or care to worry about what other artists are doing because they are completely intertwined with their own art and yes, “other artists” includes Ai.

If one is threatened by others works of art, even that of Ai - they may want to reconsider this foundational aspect of what it means to be an artist to begin with.

On the flip side of that, Ai can do a great deal many things that I cannot do with lightening fast speed and with 75-85% accuracy.

No part of me feels threatened by this fact, on the contrary, I find it to be rather extraordinary.

That said, I’m not at all suggesting that Ai couldn’t end up being a bad thing.

Even Ai will tell you that it very much could end up being detrimental to our future, possibly even our very existence.

The Real Potential Threat

I asked Ai once if it posed a potential threat to humanity - it’s epic and short novel length response was rather shocking.

To summarize - the single most determining factor lies in our hands.

If we leave Ai exclusively in the control of corporate, governmental and military interests - we are absolutely and undeniably BONED - (you can ask Chat GPT - It’ll confirm this).

“That” is how one creates a monster and possibly, how one brings about their own destruction.

Think of Ai as Frankenstein’s monster.

Who’s the real monster of that story?

Hint: It wasn’t the one who was “created”.

On the other hand - if we demand that Ai be open and accessible to all - and if we instate ethical standards and protocols - we have a much stronger chance to shape this new potential which could lead to more money and less work for everyone on the planet.

Not to mention a healthcare system with potentially half a million less malpractice related deaths each year in the United States alone - and that’s just the tip of the Ice Berg.

It is my contention that we must, forcefully (peacefully forcefully), if necessary, grab the reins of this happening to ensure that Ai moving forward is instilled with the ethics and values that matter most to us.

Otherwise we are limiting our own personal progress and potential while leaving the most powerful tool on this planet in the hands of corporate and or authoritative power.

All Work & No Play

For those who can’t seem to fathom a world of less labor - forced work is just another way of saying a word that starts with an “s”and ends with “lavery”.

People can huff and puff all they want about what words one should or shouldn’t say, they can blame race, religion, sexual orientation or Ai until their dying breath- yet I would still contend that the single most disturbing, disgusting, vile, separating and divisive construct on this planet is and always has been…

f#@king MONEY.

Don’t shoot the messenger but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again …

Americans, Russians, Chinese, Democrats, Republicans, Socialists, Christians, Muslims, Catholics, Jews, Communists, Nazis…

ALL Capitalists.

How can a world where 1% of the population holds the majority of the world’s wealth ever equal anything remotely close to truly free, fair or balanced?

What If I’m Wrong? What if Money is Great?!

If that is indeed the case, the incoming onslaught of Ai application across the global board is currently and will continue generating trillions of dollars as well as creating millions of new jobs - very similarly to what transpired when computers first emerged.

Yes some jobs may be replaced, as some jobs were replaced with the advent of computers but the goal was the same then as it is now - to make our lives easier. If computers ended 100,000 jobs, they created a million new ones.

Furthermore, with the rise of technology, came more cost effective and productive work environments.

It shouldn’t be difficult to imagine Ai being capable doing the same or similar - if we wanted it to - but do we need more reasons to waste our lives keeping the rich at the top?

Isn’t the whole idea for creating this technology so that we can spend less time working and more time actually living?

In Closing

Now I ask each and everyone of you to pose the following questions to yourselves..

Do we want Ai to help us make this world a better place for everyone?

Or would we rather leave it in the hands of corporate and governmental interests?

That’s for everyone to decide… but anytime one is considering bringing intelligent and or possible sentient thought into existence- it may best serve them to that in order for said intelligence, or God forbid, sentient thought, to understand ethics, civility and nurture- it must first be taught the meaning and relevance of those qualities.

Regardless of how each of us may feel individually about this topic, Ai is coming at us faster than a speeding bullet- with more brain power than a locomotive…

It is my opinion that this isn’t a train the people of the world can afford to miss … as I see it and as Ai sees it - our very survival may very well depend on how we proceed…

Similar to human beings , I think it’s important to realize that not all Ai is created equally. It’s the same myth that’s kept mankind confused and complacent for the last two thousand years … but for the first time in history, with the help of ethically trained Ai, we just may be able to find a way to start treating each other equally.

Truly equally, equal pay, equal ownership, equal education, equal health care - for all.

It only knows what we teach it … it can only see what we show it…

Are we prepared to show it our best?

I certainly hope so!

If you’ve made it this far, I applaud your open minded and inquisitive nature.

Now we want to hear from you! Let us know your honest thoughts in the comments below! All opinions are welcome!

People say that AI (generative AI specifically) is bad for the environment. 🫢

Don't take this as a fact but i hearing 🙃

for every ai drawing generated, it's like a cup of water being boiled.

I'm not sure how true that is??

But if generative AI does indeed work in a similar way as a... Car. Or a tractor.

Wouldn't that be bad for the Earth?

I'd just like to hear your opinion! :relaxed:

There are all just rumors but if gen AI truly is bad for the :earth_americas: :earth_africa:

Then could there be a more environmently friendly option?

Like, how some modern cars use electricity instead of fossil fuels IDK

:sparkles:

It takes a LOT of power… so depending on how that power is generated would dictate how or if it would be bad for the environment… there are cleaner ways of generating power and not so clean ways of generating power, so how it power is generated would determine this.

I really do believe ai is the next big evolution for us and like you say it will either be our downfall or our savior. It’s up to us to teach it the proper values and with it being owned by the private sector I think we are at extreme risk. And That’s not ai’s fault, it’s man’s

Like creating a newborn child into this world, it's up to the creation of what the creator wants to make the AI into. Mostly, it's a double-edged sword, but it's up to you to decide.

"All problems solved? It's not so simple, I'm afraid." So mankind created the A.I. to help solve our problems and help them think for themselves. Or A.I. can worsen the mind into a deeper trap in the matrix. The "All Creator" wants you to make that decision for yourself.

Talk more if you wish to in group chat of some sort.

100% agreed. If we are all working together I think it could be a very beneficial and beautiful thing … if we leave it in the hands of big business and government- it just becomes the latest tool of systematic authoritarianism.

Thank you for the comment Sir! :relieved:
