Hey y'all uhhhhhh #twilightwings
Ok so, why did i forget that Rock smash even exist
I was thinking about this ever since the earlier blog on PT but now let's dive into smash 4 Charizard rq
How Good Was Rock Smash?

Since charizard was a standalone pokemon, he needed a 4th special. Thus, flare blitz was born! His current side B move. Rock smash became down special.
Being a standalone pokemon meant you had the tools given to you and THAT'S IT. No switching pokemon for potentially a better advantage. No sir not here! Therefore, you'd need to make sure to use the tools necessary. So, how was rock smash used in this game?
It was actually pretty good as a landing option IF you used it as a heavy mixup tool ONLY. It can be b-reversed meaning that you could just go into your opponent trying to punish your landing and then instead just fuck them up. It had super armor on certain frames too, making it somewhat safe.
The move also dealt hella damage and shield damage as well, so it was realllly tempting to go for it despite the move being unsafe in of itself. Did i do it anyway? Fuck yeah i did :p It's just a really satisfying move.
The drawbacks? In smash 4 it sucked for pretty much ANYTHING else. You'd barely use this move. It had no real use in ledgetrapping or edgeguarding, as it was far too slow and not worth this risk. There weren't any true combos that lead into OR from it tbh, so that's another drawback. The overall utility for this move was rather low...Even if you were to get a shieldbreak, an fsmash or flare blitz were typically moves.
There's too much startup and lag. It's unsafe mostly for these reason. You can also be GRABBED and just not have it work anymore. There's almost always better alternatives as well. Like just Nair to land 4head.
Because of all of this, Rock Smash ISN'T missed whatsoever. Flare blitz GANG.
