My Stardew Journey // week 14

Winter 8-14

I am wrapped under like five blankets right now, and I’m STILL shivering.

I figured spending more time out in the cold would be a good way to help me get accustomed to it. After all, I can’t exactly halt all the work on the farm just because I’m a little chilly. So, this week I spent most of my days outside.

Monday made it easy— it was the festival of ice. It’s a cute little festival over in Cindersap. They had ice sculptures, snowmen, and even an ice fishing contest.

The first thing I did when I got there was find Shane. I hadn’t seen much of him last week, and to be honest, I was starting to kind of miss him. Weird, right?

As it turns out, he feels the same way about cold weather as I do. He said he’d prefer if we had a pizza festival instead. I had to agree… imagine all of us gathering together in a nice, toasty area, watching the snowfall out the windows, sharing a hot meal.

Ugh, I’m so cold.

Later on in the event, I wandered over to where a bunch of people were building snowmen. There were some really cute ones, and some really… unique ones. Abigail was hard at work on a “snow goon.”

Penny invited me over to help her and Jas with theirs. We went with a classic look— top hat, carrot nose, the works. Jas named him Frosty, and I gotta say, he turned out pretty great. He didn’t dance around, however.

Pretty shortly after that, Lewis called us all over for the ice fishing contest. Obviously I participated, but I was one of just a mere handful. I guess most people didn’t wanna stand on that frozen pond.

The idea was to catch as many fish as possible, and whoever caught the most would be dubbed the winner. I was a little anxious when I saw that Willy was competing. He’s pretty much a fishing expert!

The competition was stiff, but I actually won! The prize was a neat little tackle box with some cool lures, as well as a fishing hat.

I’d say the festival was a pretty fun one.

This week, I took a request from Clint. Apparently, some of the frozen floors were overrun with skeletons, enough that gathering ore was becoming much more dangerous than usual. I didn’t even realize Clint was the type to go that far down into the mines.

Either way, I accepted the challenge. I brought my pick and my sword down to level 70, and I started whacking some skellies.

Why am I getting undertale flashbacks

It took an entire day, but I think I managed to clear out those ten floors as much as I could. By the end of it, I was exhausted.

On my way out, I caught Linus sitting at a fire pit in front of his tent. He called me over and invited me to rest by the fire with him. We talked for quite a while. It was nice to hear what he had to say. Living on his own out in the wild for so long, he’s gathered up quite a bit of wisdom.

He even showed me how to make a new kind of bait, and it’s proven quite successful in bringing in fish! It was very useful over the next few days, too, considering the other festival of the week…

If the festival of ice wasn’t enough time spent in the cold, then squidfest definitely capped it off. It was an event pretty similar to the trout derby back in the summertime. There were visitors from all over the area, crowded on the dock to catch some squid.

The organizers of the event had put a special kind of bait in the water to attract squid all day, since they usually only come out in the evenings. The idea was to catch a certain number of squid, and different numbers meant different prizes.

Not to brag, but I ended up catching the maximum amount for each day. I got all sorts of bait, tackle, foods… even a squid hat! I had to get a picture in front of the squid sign with it on; it was just too perfect of an opportunity to up.

Last but not least, I finished another room of the community center today! This was the vault, and once it was restored, it looked like an office of some sort.

I’ll have to keep an eye out tomorrow for whatever the junimos fix next. Those little guys are doing great! For now, though, I’m staying under these blankets.
