My Stardew Journey // week 6

Summer 8-14

This week hasn’t been too bad. I’m really starting to figure things out, I’d say. Farm work is becoming a pretty steady routine, and I’m really beginning to hone in my skills.

Well, to start off the second week of summer, I got myself a cute little summer outfit! All it took was a shirt I found buried in the dirt, and a headband I bought from a talking mouse!

… when did my life get so weird.

Anyway, another really neat surprise happened at the beginning of this week. Apparently my farm is being recognized as up-and-coming in the Stardew Valley Tribune. So that’s pretty exciting!

I’m not really sure how or when this farm is getting noticed… are people just coming around when I’m away? Either way, I’m honored by the recognition. It really shows that I’m starting to get pretty good at all of this. Feels good, y’know?

Aside from that, I’ve been making progress in other areas, too. For instance, I’ve reached a new segment of the mines. I haven’t gone too far down yet— I’m gonna need some warmer clothing! Because as it turns out, there’s a whole section that’s just frozen over. Like, sub-zero temperatures, at least I’m pretty sure. It’s cold.

But I have found some iron, which is nice!

Back on the farm, I’ve recently learned how to make tappers for trees. I always knew about tappers being used on maple trees to get syrup, but apparently they can be used for other resources on other trees too! I slapped a few on some nearby trees, so I’ll be watching to see what I get.

Also, our local scientist Demetrius stopped by one day to ask about the little cave in the northwest corner of the farm. I wasn’t using it for anything, so he wanted to know if he could set up some sort of research thing inside. He said I could keep whatever was produced; it would just be for study on his end. I figured, why not?

So, however he managed to do it (science, yeah!!), there are now mushrooms growing in the cave.

Even some pretty valuable ones, like chanterelles, have appeared a couple times.

Thursday was the annual summer luau. Everyone met down at the beach, which was set up with food, music, and even a little dance floor. I’ll it— I busted it down this time around. What can I say, Emily inspired me.

Gosh, I don’t think I’ve danced since senior prom. As it turns out, it’s a lot more fun when you’re not wearing a dress and heels.

The highlight of the luau was the potluck soup. Townsfolk are encouraged to add their own ingredients to this gigantic soup pot in the middle of the beach and hope for the best. It… actually wasn’t too bad. I wasn’t sure what to add, but I went with some cauliflower I had leftover from spring. Not to toot my own horn, but I’d say it helped the flavor a bit.

Let’s see, what else happened this week…

I got to talk to Sam and Sebastian a bit the other day. They form a bit of a trio with Abigail, and even though I catch them at the saloon sometimes, I haven’t really talked a whole lot with them.

As it turns out, they’re both pretty talented with music. Sam plays guitar, and Sebastian plays keyboard. They’ve been wanting to start a little band, but they’ve had a hard time figuring out their sound.

Sam asked for my input, and I suggested high-energy dance music. Part of me wanted to say ska, but I figured that would be hard to accomplish without some good bass. Or drums. Or horns.

Anyway, he liked the idea, and Sebastian… I think did? He’s a little hard to read.

Oh yeah, another weird thing. Last week I received a request in the mail from Lewis, asking if I would be on the lookout for his missing “lucky purple shorts.” I was a little confused, especially by the note to return them discreetly, but I kept an eye out anyway.

Well, the other day I went to Marnie’s for some supplies, and she had to get something from her room. She invited me to follow her, since she needed a hand looking. And you’ll never guess what I found tucked away on the floor.

I have… a lot of questions. But I’m not gonna ask them. I just stuffed them in my bag and ran them over to Lewis, then washed my hands for a very long time.

That 750g reward was NOT enough for the trauma…

As I’m writing this, I’m sitting on the bed petting Milo and watching the news. Something odd came on with the weather report, though. Apparently there’s something on the way that even the weatherman couldn’t quite identify.

So that’s… foreboding.

Well… we’ll see what tomorrow, and the rest of next week, brings.
