Melee Range
Melee Range is something to keep note of. It's the distance you can attack with your melee weapon without moving your position. This is essentially determined by the length of your weapon. Having a longer melee range than an opponent can be advantageous so keep note of this.
Blocking
Blocking can be performed with anything you've got at hand by using a free action at the end of your turn to prepare to block. Blocking with a weapon grants +1 defence which can help in a pinch however blocking with a shield grants you however much defence the shield says it grants you. If you successfully block the damage you gain a counter attack.
Parry
Parrying can be performed with anything you've got at hand by using a free action at the end of your turn to prepare to parry. Parrying puts your FIN against their ATK and if you're within 2 points of eachother you'll have to roll against eachother using your respective stats and whoever gets higher wins. If you get higher you'll successfully parry their attack causing it to not deal damage and even get a counter attack. However if you fail you will take the damage.
Side Step
You can use a free action to prepare to dodge which will grant you a special bonus when in melee range: Side Stepping. This allows you to take a large step in any direction to dodge and then counter attack. This only works if you would have been able to evade normally. If you successfully do this you'll be able to counter attack.
Counter Attack
There are a few ways to gain a counter attack regardless of how you obtained it it's exactly what it sounds like. A quick action to dish out a little extra damage with whatever you have at hand.
