Komodo (1999) Review

Is an Australian horror movie directed by Micheal Lantieri.

Plot:

A psychiatrist takes a teen back to an island where his parents were killed and come across what killed them.

I found this movie to be mostly forgettable when I watched it. It's interesting that a movie use komodo dragons as the creatures, and the explanation behind them are interesting. The story itself isn't that impressive because it feels like there's good ideas in it, but it's poorly done. The plotline about Patrick having to overcome his loss isn't that flesh-out, and he actually disappeared in the middle of the movie. Also, there is a side plot about hunter hunting for the komodo, which isn't that developed, and the way it ends is anticlimactic. There are some things that feel like it's rushing itself, like characters appearing out of nowhere, and their deaths try way too hard to have drama in this movie. The scenes with the komodo aren't that better because they barely do anything at all, and most of the attacking happened off-screen or too quickly. And the ending itself is underwhelming.

The characters have good ideas for them, but they are mostly one-dimensional.

Dr. Victoria Juno is a psychiatrist who tries to help Patrick with his problems. I don't know if her ideas are a good idea, but the character is pretty bland and forgettable.

Patrick could have been a good character with his build-up towards him come to with his loss and get better. But it's poorly executed, and his plotline was anticlimactic.

Oates is a hunter who is hunting down the komodos for his boss. He does have a backstory later in the movie, but he isn't that interesting at all.

The komodo dragons are a mixed bag when it comes to their designs. I saw a video where it says that they use animatronics komodo in the movie, which is pretty impressive, and it looks good. Although the CGI looks outdated.

Komodo is a forgettable movie that has good ideas but is poorly executed on how it's done.
