this poem was inspired from this movie

"The Red Turtle"

If i were the red hair girl

I'd have bribed the macrocosm

with four sea shells and seven starfishes

to send me to you a little sooner,

So that we'll have more time to sit in Ocean's lap and soak our eyes in stars that outlives forever

I'd sit by the shore and

teach myself how to count heartbeats in the waves,

the when the waves would tiptoe towards me

and the salted hush would kiss my skin,

I’d close my eyes and picture my lips

mapping yours instead.

Mouth-first, obviously.

You would national geograph through

mud and madness and

wonder how to build a hut out of those

I'd watch you and shake my head,

maybe laugh as well

While pleading with the heavens

to keep us tethered together.

Midway through origami-ing

some stupid coconut logic with a four letter word

You'd probably tell me you wish we had a radio,

and so I would fold your humming

with crisp rustle of leaves,

drop a few pebbles together to add some beats

Hoping they would form the lilt you are missing

At night you would cocoon me in your arms,

and I'd moisturize my soul with your scent

You'd calligraph bliss in my hair with fingers

I’d clutch your shirt in my hand,

whisper my fears into your chest

and watch you bury them beneath your breath.

And like this I can palm the days,

months and even years with you,

Till my breaths are shallow

And my hair is the color of the clouds,

By then you'd be wearing your age

like a soft wool coat,

with my caresse painted on your cheek.

And when the sea would come to claim my breath,

I want it to find me curled up in your arms,

fingers still interlaced

like roots beneath the sand.

My wrinkles holding the shape of your name.

Slowly, I'll go with the tide,

only if your heartbeat

is the last sound I memorize

and your arms,

the last place that made sense in the whole world.
